The general-purpose Mindset hypnosis app ("Mindset: Hypnotherapy & Sleep") is no longer listed on the App Store or Google Play as of September 2026; its maker, Mindset Health, now builds single-condition apps such as Nerva for IBS instead. The closest replacement for most people is Mochi Zen, which covers most of Mindset's main topics (anxiety, sleep and insomnia, weight and emotional eating) plus burnout. Reveri suits in-the-moment stress, pain and focus, Harmony a broad library, and Mindset Health's own apps a single diagnosed condition.

Disclosure: this guide is published by Mochi Zen, which is ranked first here because its programs overlap most with what Mindset covered. I'm Paola Mendez, certified RTT (Rapid Transformational Therapy) hypnotherapist trained by Marisa Peer, and I've ranked each option by the job it does rather than by whether it's ours. Where another app is the better fit, I say so plainly.

Anxiety, sleepless nights, emotional eating or burnout: if that's what you used Mindset for, Mochi Zen has a program for it. Free for 7 days.

The Short Answer

Pick by what you used Mindset for

Anxiety, insomnia, weight, emotional eating, burnout → Mochi Zen. In-the-moment stress, pain, focus → Reveri. A bit of everything, one-time price → Harmony Self Hypnosis. IBS, hot flashes, back pain, smoking → Mindset Health's own condition apps (Nerva, Evia, Relio, Finito). Paying nothing → Insight Timer. Deep, personal work → a certified hypnotherapist.

What Happened to the Mindset Hypnosis App?

Mindset launched in 2018 as a general self-hypnosis library from Mindset Health, the Melbourne company founded by brothers Alex and Chris Naoumidis. It offered pre-recorded hypnosis sessions for anxiety, sleep, confidence, procrastination, weight loss and more, and for a few years it was a regular name on "best hypnosis app" lists next to Reveri and Nerva.

Today the app no longer appears in the App Store or Google Play, or among Mindset Health's listed apps, and its last recorded update was in 2022. We couldn't find a public shutdown announcement, so the careful wording is "no longer listed" rather than a precise end date. If you still have it installed, it may run, but it won't receive updates.

The company itself is thriving. It now describes itself as an "AI therapeutics" business and builds one app per condition, each designed around clinical research: Nerva (IBS), Evia (menopause hot flashes), Claria (anxiety and low mood), Relio (chronic back pain) and Finito (quitting smoking). The general library was the casualty of that focus. That's the gap this guide fills: the six places Mindset users are actually landing.

1. Mochi Zen: For Anxiety, Sleep, Weight and Burnout

$15/month · $120/year · free tier + 7-day trial · iPhone, Android and web

Mochi Zen is the closest match to what most people used Mindset for. It has separate RTT-based hypnotherapy programs for anxiety, sleep and insomnia, weight loss and emotional eating, and burnout, which together cover most of Mindset's old topics. The difference is shape: instead of a pick-and-mix library, each program is a sequence you listen to daily, in order, because repetition is how a pattern like 3am waking or evening eating actually shifts. Every session is written and voiced by a certified hypnotherapist rather than generated.

Unlike Mindset, it also includes an AI photo meal scanner, typed-sentence logging, a USDA food search, exercise and water tracking, a macros calculator, a weight tracker, and a journal that links mood to sleep and eating. For weight specifically, the evidence case is the hypnosis-for-weight literature: Kirsch's 1996 reanalysis found adding hypnosis to behavioral treatment produced 14.88 lbs lost versus 6.03 lbs at final assessment, though a competing reanalysis found a smaller effect; our write-up on whether hypnotherapy works for weight loss covers both.

Honest limits: no pain, smoking or IBS programs. If those were your Mindset topics, look at picks 2 and 4.

2. Reveri: For In-the-Moment Stress, Pain and Focus

$24.99/month · $99.99/year · 7-day trial · iOS 4.5★ (4,400+ ratings)

If you opened Mindset in the moment, before a meeting or during a pain flare, Reveri is built for exactly that. It's built on the self-hypnosis method of Stanford psychiatrist Dr. David Spiegel, and its short, roughly 10-minute sessions can be interactive (you answer by speaking or tapping) or listen-only. Topics cover stress, sleep, pain, focus and habits including overeating and smoking.

Honest caveats from its own reviews: several recent App Store reviewers call sessions repetitive, and a few report billing surprises. Its headline research, an 84,395-user study showing lower self-rated stress after sessions, was observational with no control group. For the full picture, see our Reveri review.

3. Harmony Self Hypnosis: For a Big General Library

~$12.99–$14.99/month · ~$59.99–$79.99/year · $199.99 lifetime · iOS 4.8★ (4,000+ ratings)

If what you liked about Mindset was simply having lots of topics in one place, Harmony is the most similar in shape. It has 40+ sessions using dual-voice audio and background brainwave tones, three free sessions, a 7-day trial, and a rare one-time lifetime purchase, which appeals to anyone burned by the Mindset app disappearing. Its current store description no longer lists weight loss as a headline topic, so check the library before buying it for that.

A library is great for variety. For one stubborn pattern, whether it is worry, sleepless nights or evening eating, a sequenced program does more.

4. Mindset Health's Own Apps: For One Specific Condition

Prices vary by app and region · 7-day trials

If you used Mindset for a medical-adjacent problem, the company's newer apps are genuinely better than the old general library, because each one is built and tested for one condition:

  • Nerva for IBS. The strongest evidence of any app in this guide: a 2025 randomized trial of 240 patients found 81% responded on Nerva versus 63% on an active control. iOS 4.7★ (14,800+ ratings).
  • Claria for anxiety and low mood: hypnosis plus CBT skills in about 15-minute sessions, $199/year.
  • Evia for menopause hot flashes, Relio for chronic back pain, and Finito for quitting smoking.

The trade-off is cost: you pay per condition, so several subscriptions add up quickly. For how Nerva compares with Reveri head to head, see Reveri vs Nerva vs Mindset.

5. Insight Timer: For Free

Free core library · MemberPlus $9.99/month or $59.99/year · iOS 4.9★

If budget is the priority, Insight Timer's free library includes thousands of guided meditations and a good number of hypnosis-style tracks from independent teachers. Quality varies widely and nothing is sequenced, so it's closer to a podcast feed than a program. It's the right pick for exploring what style of voice and pacing works for you before paying for anything. Our guide to free hypnosis apps compares the other $0 options.

6. A Live Hypnotherapist: For Personal Work

Typically $100–$300 per session

Every app on this list, including ours, is a recording made for many people. If the pattern you were working on with Mindset is tied to a specific history (trauma, a lifelong relationship with food, a phobia), one-to-one work goes further, faster. RTT sessions include a recording made for you personally to listen to afterwards. I see private clients in Miami and remotely through Pao Hypnosis; whoever you choose, check they are certified and ask about their experience with your specific issue.

How Do You Choose the Right Mindset Replacement?

Three questions sort almost everyone in under a minute.

1. Was your problem a moment or a pattern? If you opened Mindset when stress spiked or sleep wouldn't come, you need an on-demand toolkit, and Reveri or Harmony fit that shape. If you were working on something that kept repeating (evening eating, constant worry, nights of broken sleep, running on empty), you need a sequenced program that you follow in order, which is how Mochi Zen and Mindset Health's condition apps are built.

2. Is there a diagnosis involved? IBS, chronic back pain, menopause symptoms and depression all deserve a clinician first. If one applies, the purpose-built Mindset Health app for that condition has better evidence behind it than any general library, including the old Mindset app itself.

3. How much do you want to track? Mindset was audio only. If you liked that simplicity, any of the audio apps will feel familiar. If you have ever wondered why the sessions helped some weeks and not others, an app that lets you log meals, mood and weight alongside the sessions will show you the pattern instead of leaving you to guess.

If two answers point to different apps, start with the free tier or trial of the one matching your most frequent problem, and give it two full weeks before judging. Hypnosis apps are easy to abandon after three sessions, which is too early for most programs to show anything.

Availability, ratings and prices checked September 2026 (App Store US). Harmony and Reveri list several price tiers; the range shown is what the store listed.

One lesson from Mindset's disappearance is worth keeping: favour apps that are actively updated, and be wary of paying a year upfront for one that hasn't shipped an update in a long time. Check the "last updated" date on the store listing before you commit.

Whatever you used Mindset for, the right replacement is the one aimed at your actual problem. If that's food, it's this one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Mindset hypnosis app still available?

No. As of September 2026, the general Mindset hypnosis app is no longer listed on the App Store or Google Play, and its last recorded update was in 2022. Its maker, Mindset Health, now builds condition-specific apps such as Nerva for IBS and Claria for anxiety instead.

What is the best alternative to the Mindset app?

For most people, Mochi Zen, which has programs for anxiety, sleep and insomnia, weight and emotional eating, and burnout. Reveri suits in-the-moment stress, pain and focus, and Harmony a broad library with a lifetime price. For IBS, hot flashes, back pain or smoking, Mindset Health's own apps are best.

Is Nerva made by the same company as Mindset?

Yes. Nerva, Evia, Claria, Relio and Finito are all made by Mindset Health, the Melbourne company that built the original Mindset app. It shifted from one general hypnosis library to separate apps for single conditions, each designed around clinical research such as Nerva's 2025 IBS trial.

Is there a free alternative to the Mindset hypnosis app?

Insight Timer is the best free option, with a large library of guided meditations and hypnosis-style tracks from independent teachers. Quality varies and nothing is sequenced. Harmony offers three free sessions and Mochi Zen has a free tier, both of which let you test the style before paying.

Which Mindset alternative is best for sleep and insomnia?

Mochi Zen has a dedicated sleep and insomnia program you listen to nightly, aimed at the racing mind that keeps you awake. Reveri has short sleep sessions for use in the moment. Chronic insomnia can have medical causes, so speak with a doctor if it lasts more than a few weeks.

Which Mindset alternative is best for weight loss?

Mochi Zen is built specifically for weight, emotional eating and food noise, with RTT-based programs plus food, exercise and water logging. Reveri has an Eat Well exercise inside a general library. Research suggests hypnosis helps most as an add-on to a sensible eating plan, not as a replacement.

Did the Mindset app use AI?

No. The original Mindset app used pre-recorded hypnosis audio sessions, based partly on the work of psychologist Dr. Michael Yapko. Mindset Health now describes itself as an AI therapeutics company and uses machine learning and voice technology to personalise its newer condition-specific apps.

How do I avoid losing access if an app shuts down again?

Favour apps with recent updates, prefer monthly billing until you trust an app, and consider a lifetime purchase only from a company that is actively shipping. Before paying for a year, check the store listing's last update date. Anything untouched for a year or more is a warning sign.
