Choose Aura if you want maximum variety under one subscription — meditations, hypnosis tracks, CBT exercises, life coaching, stories and music from thousands of independent creators, with an algorithm learning your taste. Choose Mochi Zen if variety is precisely what has failed you: you have sampled everything, finished nothing, and the pattern that brought you to the app store is still running.

Full disclosure: Mochi Zen is our app. I'm Paola Mendez, certified RTT (Rapid Transformational Therapy) hypnotherapist trained by Marisa Peer, and founder of Mochi Zen. Aura has built something genuinely ambitious — the closest thing wellness has to a streaming platform — and for the right user it is excellent value. This comparison is about what marketplaces are structurally good and bad at, because that structure, not the content quality, is what should drive your choice.

If you have sampled a hundred sessions and finished no program, sampling was the problem. Mochi Zen is free for 7 days.

The Short Answer

One line each

Aura: an all-in-one wellness marketplace — thousands of coaches and creators across meditation, hypnosis, CBT, coaching and sleep, personalized by algorithm, typically around $59.99/year with aggressive first-year discounts. Mochi Zen: one method (RTT-based hypnotherapy), one author, sequenced protocols for eating, weight, anxiety, sleep and burnout, plus nutrition tools, at $15/month or $120/year.

At a Glance

Aura is best understood as the Spotify of wellbeing. Rather than producing content, it aggregates it: thousands of independent teachers, therapists, coaches and hypnotherapists publish on the platform, and Aura's algorithm assembles a personalized daily feed from your ratings and listening history. The catalogue spans meditation, hypnosis, CBT-flavoured exercises, life coaching, sleep stories and music, with live coach access at higher tiers. Pricing is promotion-heavy — headline rates around $59.99/year, with first-year offers frequently far lower and occasional lifetime deals through third-party sites.

Mochi Zen is the opposite bet: no marketplace, no algorithm, no thousand voices. One certified practitioner, one method, and a small set of sequenced RTT-based programs aimed at named patterns — weight, emotional eating, food noise, anxiety, insomnia — with the AI meal scanner, USDA food log, macros and guided journal handling the practical side of the eating use case.

The Marketplace Model, Examined

Marketplaces optimize for a specific thing, and it is worth naming it precisely: engagement across a broad catalogue. Every design choice follows — the algorithmic feed, the ratings, the endless novelty. When your goal is "always have something I feel like listening to," this model is unbeatable, and Aura executes it well.

But notice what the model cannot easily do. An algorithm feeding you what you like is structurally different from a protocol giving you what comes next. Therapeutic sequences are frequently unlikeable in the middle — week two of belief work feels flat, the session that surfaces something is uncomfortable — and an engagement algorithm, doing its job perfectly, will route you away from exactly the material a protocol would route you through. The feed learns your taste; your taste is not a treatment plan.

There is also the coherence problem. A thousand creators means a thousand methods, and yesterday's teacher may quietly contradict today's. For meditation and music, that eclecticism is harmless, even pleasant. For suggestion-based work it is not neutral — mixed metaphors and mixed methods dilute each other, which is why every clinical protocol in existence is single-method by design. We make this argument in full in what 22 trials reveal about hypnosis recordings: the recordings that produce measured change are used repeatedly, in sequence, against one target.

None of this is a flaw in Aura. It is the physics of the model. The question is only whether you are shopping for a feed or for an outcome.

There is a simple audit that settles which model you actually need, and it takes two minutes. Open whatever wellness app you last used seriously and look at your history. Count how many distinct pieces of content you played once and never returned to, then count how many things you played more than ten times. A history that is wide and shallow — fifty one-plays, nothing repeated — is the signature of feed-driven listening, and it predicts exactly what you got: many pleasant sessions, no changed pattern. A history with a few deep grooves means you naturally protocol yourself, and a marketplace will serve you fine because you will impose your own sequence on it.

Most people who have owned a wellness subscription for a year have never run this audit. It is worth the two minutes, because it tells you which of these two apps you will still be benefiting from next spring — and it costs nothing to find out before spending anything.

Prices checked July 2026. Aura's real-world price varies more than almost any app in this series — first-year offers, win-back discounts and lifetime deals are constant, so treat the headline number as a ceiling and read renewal terms carefully.

Where Aura Wins

  • Breadth per dollar. Nothing else puts meditation, hypnosis, coaching, CBT exercises and sleep content under one cheap roof. As an exploration budget, it is the best deal in wellness.
  • Discovery. If you do not yet know what helps you — mindfulness? coaching? hypnosis? — a marketplace lets you find out for one subscription instead of five.
  • The algorithm, for engagement. Aura is genuinely good at always having something you will press play on, which keeps inconsistent users listening at all — and something beats nothing.
  • Live coaches at higher tiers add a human layer no pure content app matches at the price.
  • Creator variety means voice and style options for everyone — if one teacher grates, forty more are waiting.

Where Mochi Zen Wins

  • Sequence, which is the mechanism. The weight-loss hypnosis evidence is protocol evidence — Kirsch's 1996 meta-reanalysis found 6.03 lbs versus 14.88 lbs at final assessment with hypnosis added to behavioural treatment, the advantage growing over time. Feeds do not produce that; sequences do.
  • One method, one standard. Every session written by the same certified RTT practitioner, so suggestions build on each other instead of diluting each other.
  • The eating use case, complete. Meal scanner, macros, food log, weight tracker, journal — half the product, absent from Aura entirely.
  • Protection from your own taste. The program gives you what comes next, including the flat weeks an algorithm would optimize away — which is precisely when protocols do their work, as we cover in why comfort-seeking never changes the pattern.
  • Flat, published pricing — no promo roulette, no win-back games, no wondering what anyone else paid.

An algorithm learns what you like. A protocol knows what comes next. Only one of those changes a pattern.

Hypnosis on a Marketplace: A Caution

One section of Aura's catalogue deserves specific care, and it is the one closest to our territory.

Hypnosis is not like meditation content, where a mediocre track merely wastes ten minutes. Suggestion works by reaching you with the critical filter lowered, which means the construction quality of the suggestion matters in a way ordinary audio does not — and on any open marketplace, hypnosis tracks range from excellent practitioners to hobbyists with a microphone. Ratings will not save you here: listeners rate how pleasant a track felt, and pleasantness is unrelated to whether its suggestions were competently built. Shame-based framing and absolutist commands feel dramatic and rate well; they also backfire.

If you use Aura's hypnosis content, vet it the way we recommend for any recording from an open platform: named practitioner, stated training, listen to the middle third before you give it a relaxed, uncritical mind. Or split the difference the way many of our users do — Aura for meditation, music and exploration, where the marketplace model shines; a closed, single-author protocol for anything delivered under hypnosis.

Which Should You Choose?

Choose Aura if… you are exploring and do not yet know what works for you; variety keeps you engaged where programs lose you; you want live coach access cheaply; or your goals are general wellbeing rather than one named change.

Choose Mochi Zen if… you already know the pattern — eating, weight, anxious sleep — and want it worked on rather than orbited; you have a graveyard of sampled content behind you; or the nutrition layer matters.

The split-subscription answer is genuinely sensible here: Aura's discounted first year for breadth, Mochi Zen for the one pattern you are serious about. Combined, they still cost less than a single hypnotherapy session — and if you want that session anyway, I see private clients through Pao Hypnosis in Miami and remotely worldwide.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Mochi Zen and Aura?

Aura is a wellness marketplace — thousands of creators across meditation, hypnosis, coaching and sleep, assembled into a personalized feed by algorithm. Mochi Zen is a single-method app: sequenced RTT-based hypnotherapy protocols from one certified practitioner, aimed at named patterns, with nutrition tools.

How much does Aura cost in 2026?

Headline pricing sits around $59.99 per year, but Aura is one of the most promotion-heavy apps in wellness — first-year offers, win-back discounts and third-party lifetime deals are constant. Treat the sticker as a ceiling, and read renewal terms before subscribing.

Is Aura good for hypnotherapy?

It hosts many hypnosis tracks of genuinely mixed provenance, from excellent practitioners to hobbyists. Because suggestion reaches you with lowered critical filtering, construction quality matters more than in ordinary audio — vet creators' credentials, and prefer sequenced single-author work for anything hypnotic.

Why can't an algorithm replace a therapeutic program?

An engagement algorithm feeds you what you like; a protocol gives you what comes next. Therapeutic sequences are often flat or uncomfortable in the middle — precisely the material a taste-based feed routes you away from, and precisely where the change happens.

Does Aura help with weight loss or emotional eating?

It carries individual tracks on eating topics but has no structured program, no sequencing toward that goal, and no nutrition tools — no meal logging, macros or weight tracking. For a named eating pattern, a protocol built around it targets the mechanism far more directly.

Can I use Aura and Mochi Zen together?

Yes, and the split plays to each model's strength: Aura's cheap breadth for meditation, music and exploration; Mochi Zen's closed protocol for the one pattern you are serious about changing. Combined they typically cost less than a single one-to-one hypnotherapy session.

Is a marketplace or single-method app better for anxiety?

If you are still discovering what helps you, a marketplace answers that cheaply. If you already know your anxiety is a baseline pattern feeding your eating or sleep, a sequenced program working on the underlying beliefs does what sampling across forty teachers cannot.
